Three HBIS Projects Won Worldsteel 15th Steelie Awards

    2024-10-12

October 7, World Steel Association announced the shortlist for the 15th Steelie Awards, HBIS “Carbon2Rock” -Steel slag in situ fixed flue gas CO2 production negative carbon building materials project, Promoting the cultivation of high skilled talents by establishing an enterprise training and education platform, Hydrogen metallurgy project presents a steel green vision to the public, respectively won Excellence in Sustainability Award, Excellence in Education and Training Award,Excellence in communications programs.

CCUS has a great potential in deep carbon reduction and HBIS has pay a high attention on it, HBIS has published its road map for low carbon development to reduce its carbon emission in large scale and enhance the carbon neutrality efforts of steel industry. The core idea of Carbon2Rock -Steel slag in situ fixed flue gas CO2 production negative carbon building materials is using the principle of natural weathering of rocks to use the low concentration CO2 of steel industry and use direct slag to capture the CO2 in the flue gas to effectively reduce the cost and energy consumption in the process, without waste gas, waste water and slags in the procedures. This project could help HBIS to achieve green and low carbon development, giving great experiences to the global steel industry, reducing carbon emissions. ‌

HBIS always adheres to the concept of "employees are the competitiveness of enterprises that cannot be copied", attaches great importance to the training of highly skilled talents and the cultivation of "craftsman" culture, and takes the "HBIS Cup" vocational skills Competition as the lead, and builds the Competition vocational skills training and education platform for employees that integrates online learning, competition selection, mentoring and teaching, and technical exchanges. The project provides comprehensive and multi-level training resources for employees from basic theory to practical operation, and from single skills to comprehensive application. It not only covers professional courses for many key jobs such as converter steelmaking, metal rolling, tool working, etc., but also promotes skill exchange and inheritance through interactive links such as simulated competition, online communication, and expert guidance, to promote the scientific and standardized training of skilled personnel of the whole group.

Realizing the concept of Making Green Steel for Mankind, HBIS 1.2million ton hydrogen steel making pilot plant project is in operation, first in the world. In order to show the bright future of green steel, HBIS planned and implemented the "Hydrogen Metallurgy Demonstration Project Communication Project", cooperated with the public media, launched influential news reports, and demonstrated the huge emission reduction advantages and bright prospects of hydrogen metallurgy through the establishment of international academic exchange platforms, live exhibitions and other forms of communication activities. It has subverted the traditional image of iron and steel enterprises that rely heavily on traditional fossil energy and large carbon emitters, enhanced the society's confidence in iron and steel enterprises to get rid of the shackles of fossil energy, and contributed to promoting global sustainable development.

The Steelie Awards recognize member companies for their contribution to the steel industry over a one-year period in a series of categories impacting the industry. The Steelies are awarded in six categories, including excellence in sustainability to promote efforts in sustainability, or success cases in economic, environment and social welfare; excellence in education and training is about to promote top member companies that making contributions in Worldsteel training programs; excellence in communications programs is dedicated to creative promotion programs for steel industry.
